About Me
I was born in the Province of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic and am the third and only male of six siblings of Mr. and Mrs. Lara.
I began my career at the Ministry of Agricultural where I was in charge of Topography in the City of San Jose de Ocoa, Dominican Republic. It was there where I received a scholarship to participate in a post graduate program in Engineering and Land Surveying at the Inter American Geodetic Survey in Las Americas School in Fort Clayton, Panama. Here, I graduated with honor and distinction in 1986.
Thereafter, I moved to the United States of America where I had the opportunity to finish a Masters Degree in Science of Education at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. By 2003, I began working on my doctorate program at the Christian University in Paterson, New Jersey where I continued up until 2006 and completed three degrees: one in Church Administration, another in Ministry, and a final one in Theology.
I began a teaching career here in the United States soon after arriving. After having passed the New York State Education Department's Examination, among other requirements, I became a certified Mathematics, Bilingual Mathematics, and Special Education teacher. I have been teaching for the last 26+ years. During my tenure, I have served the school community as Dean of Affairs, Youth Development Coordinator, Youth Leadership Coordinator, as well as being a member of the School Executive Board, Chairing the School Leadership Program and as President of the School Executive Board.
Most recently, I became the fourth Bronx High Schools District Representative for the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), where I was formerly known as a chapter leader. I also am a delegate for the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), a National Delegate of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and a member of the UFT Executive Board working for the New York City Department of Education for the last 26 years.
At a local level, I enjoy participating in a church as community Pastor for a church in Yonkers, NY, participating as a member of the Westchester County Clergy Organization, and as Executive Secretary of the Dominican United Pastors Association of the State of New York, among other organizations and associations.
